Meet Cassie Blakely
Cassie is an educational consultant with a background in child development. She has always had a passion for helping families and children thrive. Over the past 10 years, she has helped support families through their journey of learning differences that tend to go along with dyslexia diagnosis (ADD, ADHD, anxiety).
Cassie shares her personal experience with dyslexia and her parenting experiences after learning that both of her daughters are also dyslexic. Cassie’s parenting journey started when her oldest daughter was 5. After seeing firsthand how dyslexia was affecting her daughter’s self-esteem, Cassie moved her family from San Diego, California to Atlanta, Georgia for two years for her oldest daughter to attend a specialty school for dyslexic learners.
Cassie’s younger daughter also had some struggles that included dyslexia. She was able to get her daughter the help she needed very early even before an official diagnosis of dyslexia.
IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL LEARN
Cassie provides real approaches to raising children with dyslexia. She shares that being dyslexic is not easy, especially academically, but that it also provides you with an advantage to see the world differently.
She encourages moms (and caregivers) to find their team. (I like to call it your Mom Tribe.)
There are 3 things that Cassie shares as to where to start when your child is struggling: (1) Start with the school. Are the teachers educated on dyslexia? Schedule a meeting to discuss your child’s needs. (3) It’s important to get your child evaluated. (3) Inform your village (friends and family) as to what dyslexia means.
Cassie shares that when doing too many therapies at the same it can cause burnout for the child and family, not to mention financial hardship. Cassie helps parents to identify the priorities for their dyslexic child.
